Hiya,

Does anybody here know how to get a police clearance certificate in Mexico City? I'm leaving Mexico at the end of the school year, and I found out that I need the police clearance to work as a teacher in New Zealand or Australia.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have been searching the web for the last half-hour without any luck. Or, do you know the spanish translation for police clearance?

Thank you!

You really need a police record for Oz and NZ? Wow. Not even the US DHS bothers asking for these from Mexico. Guess it recognises that either it's going to be a bureaucratic nightmare getting hold of one; and that anyone wanting to short-cut the bureaucracy will just shell out a few pesos for a nice clean record...

Course you do! We're a pretty tough bunch! Laughing

Aroha, what has worked for me (in Oz and the UK) is that my overseas employers wrote me a letter stating that I hadn't been in any trouble and then I took that to Oz and then applied for a blue card (that's the name of the clearance in Oz) to cover the time I'd been there. Criminal records checks usually only cover the country you apply for them in, and their heads start to spin around when you mention having worked in other countries.

Good luck,
Lozwich.

Mexican Priest Confesses to Killing Lover By GLORIA PEREZ, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 8 minutes ago

TOLUCA, Mexico - A Mexican priest has confessed to strangling his pregnant lover after Easter Mass and cutting her body into pieces, a state attorney general said Wednesday.

The Rev. Cesar Torres, 42, admitted killing the 22-year-old woman at his parish on Mexico City's eastern outskirts, Mexico state Attorney General Abel Villicana said.

Villicana read from a statement signed by Torres in which the priest described his affair with the woman, Veronica Andrade Salinas, and said she came to his home at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in the city of Nezahualcoyotl to say she was pregnant and ask for money.

According to the statement, the two fought and Torres strangled Salinas. He then dragged the body to a nearby bathroom and, according to the statement authorities say he signed, used a kitchen knife to cut off her head and hack her body to pieces. He packed the pieces into plastic bags.

According to the confession, Torres loaded the bags into a pickup truck and dumped them near a cemetery in Chimalhuacan, which like Nezahualcoyotl is in the State of Mexico, which neighbors Mexico City.

Authorities in recent weeks recovered the bodies of five other women who had been slain and dumped in Chimalhuacan. Some of those victims had been mutilated, sparking speculation a serial killer could be working in the area.

But Villicana said the testimonies of Salinas' mother and other family members led to his arrest Wednesday morning and evidence recovered around the parish helped prompt his confession.

He said Torres was scheduled to appear before a judge in coming days to be formally charged with murder.

The victim was expecting a girl at the time of her slaying.

Villicana said the victim's mother told police her daughter and Torres met when Salinas was 13 and had been romantically involved for years. He said the couple had a daughter together, now 18 months old, but it was not clear if the priest was responsible for Salinas' latest pregnancy.

Started the relationship when she was 13, strangled her after Easter Mass and cut her head off and dismembered her while she was pregnant. Makes me want to rush right out and go to Mass. Or Confession maybe.

Wow. cwc. I don't understand why you posted that.

Thanks Lozwich, your advice sounds sensible and that sorts me out... the teacher council is rather militant in NZ, and they can get scratchy if you dont do things their way. I'm provisionally registered as a teacher in NZ, so I'm also hoping to get some credit for the teaching I've done here towards full registration.

My boyfriend and I are moving to Melbourne, and he has to provide a police clearance to get a temporary resident visa. So I hope we can fasttrack that and he doesnt have to wait 3 months... We have some contacts in Toluca so we might try to get a clearance through Toluca...

Aroha, are you a Kiwi? Or even better, an Aussie? Laughing

I'm going to ask you some questions that don't need answers, but once you've answered them for yourself, take yourself to the Australian immigration website. www.dimia.gov.au last time I looked. How long have you been with this fellow? More than two years? Can you prove that with shared bank accounts/house rental documents and the like? Or, are you engaged and planning to marry within the next few months? If so, you might be able to arrange him to enter as a dependent spouse if you have Australian residency or citizenship.

Hi Lozwich,

Yip I'm a kiwi through and through. We have been living in sin in Mexico City for the last 1.5 years but we met 4 years ago, and were travelling backwards and forwards between NZ and Mex, so we are hoping we have enough evidence for the de facto relationship.

I can't sponsor him for permanent residence cos as a kiwi we dont actually get permanent residence as such, unless I first apply and then I can sponsor him. The permanent residence visa costs around US$1000. But kiwis are still treated like permanent residents anyway.

So we are going for something called a NZ Family Citizen Member visa, which gives him 5-year temporary residence and full working rights.

What a coincidence that someone else is doing the same thing, moving to Australia with their Mexican boyfriend.

When I first came to Mexico, someone on the plane told me "You will leave this country with a wedding ring on your finger". Well that was almost 4 years ago and I'm still waiting!

Even without the ring, you'll break his poor mother's heart! My mother-in-law has three sons, all married now, and I'm the only daughter-in-law she likes because I'm the only one who didn't "make" her son move far away. (AND I'M A FOREIGNER!) Laughing

Hiya,
Just found this webpage with FAQs about getting a police clearance in Mexico DF.

http://www.pgr.gob.mx/_preguntas_frecuentes/preg_certificado.html

Its all in Spanish and some of the answers havent been posted yet, but it has most of the essential information like where to go, what documents to take, etc.

Spot on, Melee. There have been a few conversations from Ma and Pa like, "Wouldnt it be better if you went to Spain..." or "Why dont you just stay here?" On the other hand, I think the cousins are quite happy cos they want to travel to Australia!

Cheers Smile
