Hi all,
My friend is leaving for Japan on Sunday (in 2 days!) to a job with The HEART ENGLISH SCHOOL in Mito to teach English but im really worried! I dont like the impression ive gotten of the company at all or what ive found on the web. He says its fine but he'd to anything to get to Japan and wont listen to me. Please Please Please let me know if anybody has any info about Heart English School, good or bad. I dont want him walking into a nightmare situation!
All the best everyone,

Mary before you panic,
just let him know that foreign workers are covered under Japanese labor laws and that he is fully protected. he can not be exploited or abused unless he lets him
This will mean knowing what his legal rights as an employee are.The employer counts on him not knowing or not being able to speak the language. New employees often feel intimidated by a new boss in a new country.
An illegal clause in a contract is still illegal and an employer can not enforce it in a contract.
For info on the labor laws check the law pages
http://www.generalunion.org
The Labor standards office can help him if he has any problems with his employer.
In all my time in japan I havent heard anything bad about this school but there's always a first time.
Here's the company website. Seems OK to me.

And of course he can always bail if things are really bad. Bailing out of a language school situation turned bad is a long and cherished gaijin tradition. |
