I just KNOW this forum has the answer to all my booze questions!

1. What is with the Bulgarian border? I managed to buy a bottle going into Bulgaria, but on my way back they said I had to be in Bulgaria 72 hours to buy anything at Duty Free. Does this mean, I'm not really allowed to buy booze on the border runs anymore?

2. Where can I find a really well stocked liquor store in Istanbul. I want more than just raki and whisky. I NEED an amarretto sour before bed, and my bottle is almost empty. Sad

Sorry I can't answer question 1 but if you are looking for foreign booze most large supermarkets should suffice. If you are after the little bit extra, la cave at the bottom of Siraselviler Cad in Cihangir opposite the Cihangir sports salon has a wonderful selection, especially if you are a wine lover

A) Don't buy booze at the border, buy in the town and stick it in your bag.

B) there's a place in Suadiye called Gimtas, they sell loads of foreign spirits, I'm pretty sure they have Amarreto.

Thye have bacon and Parma Ham too. I had Parma ham last night. It was ace.
Did someone on this board mention a place that had branston pickle a while back?

If I had to do such a thing I'd go to plovdiv, which is about 3 hours extra, go to restaurant eat loads of pork buy some bottles drink a few vodkas, then get back on the coach, sleep and arrive the next morning.

Ploviv is cool. The old town is greating for walking around and the girls in Happy bar and grill are fantastic.

Oh btw baba it was me who mentioned Branston. The small supermarket on Akarsu sok. in Cihangir used to have it but they didn't last time I checked.

This is a common problem with supermarkets in Turkey. They aren't very good at restocking.
Sometimes you find wonderful things, but they never reorder them. About a month ago Ucler in Kurtulus Cad. had Heinz baked beans. a week later Gone!!! Have they got the back?

So anyhoo last week Champion had Leader Ramen noodles, so I got 10 pots of the stuff.

Lesson to all. if you find something decent- stockpile.

Yeah, It's so unbelievably cheap that restraunt. Mor pork than you can shake a stick at, chips salad, beer and a coffee and vodka to finish. all from about 10 lira.
Then there's bar Alex around the corner. Which is also nice.

The best place to buy all imports as I have said in the past is Okka in Kozyagta and Erenkoy. A really wide selection of drinks as well.

I would definitely say the Englihs Pub oposite Marks and Sparks on Bağdat Street. Nothing English about it. Other than the rude staff.
