|
|
Hi, I'm currently in the process of trying to teach in Japan. My main concern is location, i really want to work in a city with a vibrant art scene. I'm thinking Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka.
I understand that JET placements are usually outside of the big cities.
My question is out of the five companies which is most likely to offer a placement in the above cities: NOVA, AEON, GEOS, ECC or JET.
Also can anyone reccomend other cities with good contemporary visual art scenes.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions, or if anyone could direct me to a related link, i've had a look, but not seen one. Cheers. |

Tokyo, Tokyo, Tokyo without a doubt check out the site for designfesta as a starting point. Not to say that that other cities have an arts scene just no where near as developed as Tokers. |

I agree with this. You want to be near Tokyo. |

Yeah i've heard about the design fiesta, it looks really good. I would absolutely love to be based in Tokyo, but how possible is it to get a placement there? Which companies would be most likely to offer a job there, or maybe Osaka?
Thanks, i agree though Tokyo does have a rep as an art capital. |

Designfesta is OK, but it does seem to resemble a market more and more.
Basically anyone can display stuff and hire a booth and show whatever they like. I did it a few years ago with some friends. There's also a designfesta studio in Harajuku.
Takashi Murakami also does an arts fair like designfesta called Geisei.
There are many other little galleries all over Tokyo and of course there's the Mori arts museum which has to be one of the best art galleries in the world.
My personal favourite is the sculpture park and Picasso museum in Hakkone. Go on a sunny day, it has to be the most breathtaking art space on earth.
I reckon all the cities you mention will have pretty vibrant art scenes. All major employers will probably place you in Tokyo if you ask, there are always vacancies. |
