I am moving to Guadalajara in July, have a job secured to begin in August, but want to move down a month early to go to Spanish language school. I have been doing some browsing online but wondered if anyone had first-hand recommendations. I have looked into IMAC, the Univ. of Guad, and Vancouver Language Center. Any others I should know about? Any advice would be great. I will already have housing so homestays are out. I just want info regarding class room instruction, the school's facilities, and excursions/activities.
Thanks so much! |

There is a world of choice in Guadalajara for Spanish classes. There is a poster on this forum who works with the Guadalajara Language Center in Tlalquepaque, south Guadalajara. I'm a biased source, but I would recommend them. |

I continue to be amazed by people that are supposed to be lang. teachers but cant teach themselves a language while living in that language. The best way to learn a language, any language, is go there and live. You will learn in the best way. When you go to the store, you will be forced to learn in the most functional, natural and lasting way. gpars, have more faith in yourself!! |

FoxandMe- Yes i found my job online. My husband is actually an ESL teacher and I am a guidance counselor, and we landed jobs at the same private K-12 school in Guad.
cwc- Thanks for the tip! I know I will pick up the language naturally while living immersed... but I thought a month of intensive classes would give me quite the jumpstart.
Guy- Thanks for the tip. I will look into GLC. |

My experience at Vancouver Language Center studying spanish while teaching english was just ok. I had one excellent teacher who is long gone and several who were not really qualified to teach. I would be sure to ask a lot of questions about teacher qualifications of each school you talk to. Personally, I would lean toward a university rather than a language school as I have always had better experiences there. University level classes are what finally got me over my worst obstacle of not feeling confident enough to speak when I was first learning. |
