Hey folks

I was wondering what would be the best route for teaching jobs in Santiago for a guy with a BA in Finance and a TEFL certificate? I figured maybe teaching business professionals. I would really dig doing private lessons too. I have alot of business experience. Is that even marketable in Chile?

Is it possible to make $2,000 US a month as a Teacher? mind you when i arrive I won't have any teaching experience. However my current roommate is an elementary school teacher...teaching technics

I get the sense you can live Spartanly on $500-800 a month US.

How much time should I allow to get settled in and interview with the schools once I arrive. I get the sense from the forum negociating in person is best. Do I have to bring a copy of my BA in Finance diploma?
What kind of documents are they going to request of me?

I'd love to get in with a school that offers free spanish lessons for it's ESL teachers! Ideal, but I don't want to loss pay to have that benefit.

Love to hear your thoughts

Making $2000 a month? Us dollars or ??? If it was possible to earn $2000 a month, I would be in Chile right now. A good paying TEFL job in the better paying countries like Korea start out at $2000 a month, even the jobs in Japan start out at $2500 a month. I have never taught in Chile, but I can bet that you won't be earning $2000 a month unless you had a BA in education and were certified to teach in California.

Your only chance of hitting that magical number is to hit the ground on your own, teach private classes and tutor extensively. Buy a car to go to all the classes you have to teach to make $2000 a month. You will be very very busy. Maybe a real Chilean hand can jump in on this thread.
