|
|
Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some suggestions on places in Oman to apply for September. I've worked elsewhere in in the Middle East for 3 years and have heard nothing but good things about Oman, but don't have any concrete leads.
I'd appreciate any info on
- Muscat vs Salalah
- Reasonable salary + package deal ( BA, CELTA, Masters in progress + 8+ years teaching experience)
- Typical starting dates for September
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out with info. |

Have you done a search or read the old threads? You would probably find the answers to your questions plus a whole lot more useful information.
Not sure what you mean by "typical starting dates in September." Normally you are expected to be there somewhere between mid-August and early September at the latest. Depends on the employer...

Hi VS
I have read a lot of your threads and have discovered you are a very wise person.
So was wondering if you knew anything about Azzan Bin Qais Private School?
Am not wanting loads and loads of information as i have already done my homework.
Would just appreciate a thumbs up or thumbs down from someone that has lived in Oman and has expreienced a lot of the different schools and education system.
Not trying to stir the pot - would just like to put my family at ease to trust my judgement.
Thanks heaps

As I mentioned, I've spent three years in the Middle East, so yes I've done more than my fair share of trawling through threads on these forum boards, and they invariably all go off tanget like this one I started yesterday.
All these hours of endless trawling have sometimes resulted in someone somewhere posting nice, precise lists of schools with practical info like websites, e-mail addresses. It would be nice if there was an employer database on this site where teachers could simply post/ find a list of schools they know of in their area. Does such a thing exist??
Anyway, VS, you seem to be omnipresent on these forums.
" start date for September": - I've noticed that most of the jobs mentioned in Oman here are for Colleges/ Ministery of Education, so I assumed that there would be an academic calender involved somewhere. "Do semesters start at the begining, middle or end of September?" was what I meant.
So, getting back to the point, can anyone recommend three or four places to start sending resumes off to? Muscat or Salalah preferably.
Thanks |

Toni... My experience and knowledge is university level. I can't tell you anything about the primary or secondary schools. Since I never taught at that level, nor had children attending, I didn't pay any attention. Hopefully someone will come on who knows something about it. One problem is that the vast majority of expat teachers are at university level. (probably 95%)
fish... Yes, the threads do often meander off in many directions. As far as this board providing you with websites and email addresses, that often ends up getting zapped by the moderators. This is an advertisement supported board, so they frown on institutions getting free advertising on the forums.
My suggestion is to read about... pull out the names of the places that sound like they would interest you and then Google them. All the decent places have websites and many of them have online applications. It is just that you have to do the work yourself.
Again... Oman employers mostly want you there in August so that you can do the paperwork and be settled by the time classes start - usually between Sept 1 - 10. I don't know of any employers that start after that date.
