				| While traveling through Vietnam about a year ago, I found ESL work plentiful with a high demand for teachers. I've been looking forward to moving to HCMC since. An now, less than a month before I leave for Saigon, I've read on a number of posts about the "changing situation" in the Vietnamese TEFL market. These changes seem quite important, but nothing specific has been mentioned. How has the market changed? Are we talking about the erratic temperament of the immigration officials? Or has the demand for teachers, the pay, or the general market changed in some radically different way? | |

Enforcement of work permit laws has had some effects. Everyone is trying to get criminal records and documentation of degree's and that sort of thing. The problems have arisen in getting those documents translated, verified and so forth.

Also, a few of the lower end players have fallen from the market including a scandal with S.I.T.C. skipping town.

Demand remains high.

				| I was wondering the same thing. I am planning on heading over in January 2006 - I know about Tet, I'm planning on having a bit of a holiday before I start working. I will be doing my CELTA either when I get there or here, in Australia. I will have one more subject to do to complete my BA (English Lit. Major) which I will do online while in HCMC.
I have some informal experience helping exchange students with their English but no documentation etc.
I will have enough money to live comfortably for 2 months without any work, so I can afford to spend a little time building up my hours.
I am sure I'll pass any police clearances etc, my life has been too dull here for me to have committed any crimes
. I am a mid 20s Australian born and bred woman (Caucasian, if it makes any difference) and I am keen to give ESL a try as a career, not just to fund my travels. Does it sound like I will be able to get myself established? Thanks for your responses
