For everyone who has been in CR for an extended period of time, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you as to what the weather is like there. This may seem like a trivial issue, but it is quite important to me. Is there a great variance of temperature throughout the year, or is it hot nearly all the time, and how hot? Is it a dry heat or moderately humid or extremely humid? How about rainfall; is there a wet and dry season, or little rain, or does it rain nearly every day? I'm guessing there aren't significant differences in weather patterns throughout the country because it's so small, but if this isn't the case, please let me know as well. I appreciate any information you can provide. Thank you!

it depends on where you are.

you'd be surprised how different the weather is in different parts of the country. it also depends on the time of year.

the guanacaste area (which is my personal favorite) is a dry forest. it's very hot and sunny, but dry.

further south, such as in drake bay, it's very hot but more humid than in the dry forests of guancaste.

the only other place i have experience with is in the elfin forest up in the mountains. it's COLD AS HECK. it's at nearly 2 miles above sea level so it makes sense that it's about 30-40 degrees fahrenheit (yank here) at night and in the morning and around 50-60 during the daylight hours.

that's really as much as i know. hope that helps. Smile

Costa Rica has a lot of microclimates so the weather depends on the area you go to and the elevation and such. The beaches are usually quite warm. The central valley has a year round temperature average in the 70s F, always cooler at night. There is a dry season and a wet season and a few transitional months in between. It's a good idea to have a few sweaters, jeans, and a jacket as well as fresh clothing. Don't forget your umbrella if you're staying here in wet season or the months before and afterwards.

Hope you have a good stay in the country.
