There seems to be a lot of variation in the amount of allowance paid for housing when teachers choose not to live in school accomodation.

What have YOU been quoted from different schools? What's the best and the worst?

There is definitely a change in the housing allowance trend - I remember 3 years ago most schools I knew provided the option of free housing or housing allowance. Certainly not 'provided' housing which you are then charged for Shocked Shocked

I get 1 million a month for housing but it's not easy to find a decent place for that in JKT these days.

EF Bandung, no assistance, though rents are cheap locally.
National Plus school, West Jakarta, a mil a month. Needs to be supplemented to get a decent house.

Six years ago, I rented a very nice house in Bandung for 6 million for the year. This was a bit of a rip-off, as I was expected to pay for the repairs and painting before I moved in, which cost about another 1 million.

Another teacher with a Javanese wife, let her do the talking, and they got a furnished house for about half that figure.

Paying 1 million a month seems a lot.
