Hi All,
Im a TEFL newcomer and have been offered a position in Kecskemt in Hungary. Does anyone have any information about Kecskemt and/or working in Hungary in general.
It would be great to hear some views from people who have worked there or are working there at the moment.
Thanks in advance.... |

Mid-sized town out east. I saw one job there offering 1200 HUF/hour. Nene's cleaning toilets in Budapest get more. |

Never been there, but been through. Doesn't seem to be much going on. About 90 mins away from BP and Szeged. Kind of poor, old industrial town from what I gathered. I'm not sure how anxious I'd be to go, but then again, I prefer bigger cities. Still iffy though. |

Would you have an idea of a decent rate per 45 minute class? |

Depends on the class-is it a uni, a language school, a corporation? Depends on the context- conversation or ESP/EAP?
Depends on your qualifications both in and outside of education
But it's all a hypothetical discussion anyhoo, especially vis a vis Kecskemet because you will likely be offered demeaning wages (subject to 50% taxation mind you) and upon asking for more will be lectured on how you are a rich, stupid ignorant foreigner who doesn't understand the hardships of a post-communist oligarchy.
That said...
For conversation classes in Kecskemet, 2000/45 minutes is good
For EAP/ESP, especially in a corporate setting, 3000/45 is the minimum.
If you're doing privates increase these numbers by 60%. It's not a hard and fast rule just a good generalization. Of course asking for these sums does not mean getting them.
Do you have a specific offer or prospect in mind? I imagine you do or else you wouldn't be looking at a town described by Tibor Fischer as a place where the most exciting thing to do on a Friday night is to watch sheep masticate. True then and true now. |

Anyway, I never was fond of sheep.....!!!! |
