OK how's this for our almost-montly get-together? There is this place called La Faena in the Centro Historico... like a bar I think with a bullfighting theme. I have at least 2 people here in Toluca that would like to come with me. One is a Jamaican grad student at Tec that just finished her thesis, so she definitely needs to party. However, if you can believe this, she's never yet been to Mexico City Shocked So guys we got to do something about that before she graduates and goes back home.

Lets make it the 29 of April. I got to administer TOEFL exams in the morning, so Ill certainly be ready for a beer or 3 by evening!

La Faena! Good choice. Here is the write-up for the place...

Quote:
LA FAENA Venustiano Carranza #49. The incongruous mix of plastic chairs, high ceilings and mannequins sporting bull fighter attire lends the appearance of a once elegant cantina overtaken by squatters. The signature painting of a man picking a nocturnal fight with a bull is frequently backdrop to electronic music shows. Fluorescent lights illuminate what the broken chandeliers cannot.

We can swap tales of bullfighters of old. Venustiano Carranza runs through the heart of the historic center, just to the east of the Zocalo. If anyone wants to meet to hook up beforehand, PM me.

A notorious Dave's poster just blew into town. I think I'll drag him over to La Faena. I have now met 13 people in person from this forum. You're not all as weird as I thought you'd be. Wink

Guy has really come through under difficult circumstances. Props, dude.

La Faena- wait a sec, weren't all the bulls supposed to be frolicking in grassy fields after the bullfights?!?! Wink

I remember vaguely some joke about if the tacos sold outside the bullfighting area are large, the bull lost... but if they are small, the matador lost... Shocked

If April 29 is Saturday, I will be in Mexico City and should be able to attend. I don't have a calendar and my watch says Wed 21, which I know is way off. Is La Feana near the Zocalo? Anybody know anything about Hotel Zamora? The price is right, so I'm just hoping for something basic and clean.

April 29 is indeed a Sat. I dont know about Hotel Zamorra (Guy can you help us out here?) but since I have to get a room too, I and my DF-native ( I was gonna say "chilango" but I didnt want to start a PC war) boyfriend can help you out, finding a place.

So, come on down! (or is it "up"?)

Here is a website map of DF. I can't link the exact spot, so click on map 84, then square 5C to find Venustiano Carranza, or just type in the street from the search box.

Does anyone have a red cape I can borrow for Saturday?
