Do i have to get the medical check in the same city where i have to work? Right now im in Shenzhen but a school in Guangzhou has hired me and provided all the documents for me to get a Z visa. But do i have to go back to Guangzhou and get the medical check there or can i just do it in Shenzhen now? Thanks |

Gilly, I assume you're going to Hong Kong to get your Z visa. Have you checked with the Chinese consulate there that you actually need the medical check before you get your visa?
Have you also checked with the school about when their FTs usually have the medical - before or after getting the Z? You also might need to ask whether the school can arrange the medical and pay the fees (this is normal, in my experience). |

It has been my experience that the GZ PSB will only accept medical exams done in the GZ facility located in Long Kou Xi Road. For those who have their exam conducted aborad, although usually legit, the PSB here still tries to raise a stink and get the person to redo at least a portion of the medical exam here in GZ. Call 02096110 and they will give you the latest details -- though not in English. |

We'll im in Shenzhen right now on a L visa. I live with my relatives in Shenzhen currently and if i can do the medical check here in Shenzhen rather than Guangzhou that would be a lot better for me. |

Certainly. But you'd better check because otherwise you may end up paying for two medical exams and going through a bit more hassle. |

Why in the world would you want to go to Hong Kong to get the Z visa??? That can be done in-country.
OK, my experience is that they like you to have the medical exam done at the "officially sanctioned hospital" for that province. When I came from Sichuan to Hainan, I had the exam done in Sichuan, and then had to have it done over when I got here (however the school picked up the tab). Actually, the Sichuan exam sufficed for my Z Visa, but I guess it didn't satisfy some other requirement. You might just want to have an inexpensive health exam (8 yuan) and the AIDS test (around 30 yuan) and that should be enough for the visa, and just wait til you get to Guangzhou to see if anything else is needed.
Sometimes you can get by without having to have another exam, if you've had one recently. I haven't had a health exam in 4 years, but I've stayed at the same school. |
