Hi everyone!

I was just denied a Work Visa because I am not a "Native" English Speaker. That's cute.

I have a month to go here in Japan on my Visitor's permit.
Well, my girlfriend came up with the idea of getting Arrow married...

-Will this bring ANY suspicion to Japanese Immigration?
-If So? Does this suspicion change things in my plans?

last question....

Do I need to leave the country if I start the Spouse Visa process? How long?

In Advance... BIG Thank you for all those who took the time to read this. I must figure all these things out pretty soon!

Thanxz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, as long as you are legally married and provide the paperwork showing you have got hitched and she is willing to sponsor your spouse visa. You can get married at the city office in about ten minutes with a couple of hanko's and a witness.

Getting the visa takes a couple of weeks. AFAIK you dont have to leave the country.

How romantic!

Why should you care about immigration getting suspicious? If you want to marry your girlfriend then they shouldn't be a factor. If their suspicions are a factor then it doesn't sound like your heart's in it.

If you go to immigration with a guilty look on your face it will be because you've conned yourself into doing something stupid. Punishment enough.

If she came up with this because you need a visa it doesnt sound like you have given this idea a hell of a lot of thought. Have you discussed marriage before your visa troubles arose, or is this her idea to snag a husband?

My friend was working on a visitor's visa for a while. When hers expired she would take a weekend "holiday" to Korea. It seemed to work for her...This would at least give you more time to seriously consider the whole "til death do us part scenario. Rather than making such a decision under stress like this....

Don't know where you're from, but to get married in Japan I think you need a certificate to prove that you're not married already before you tie the knot. The British Embassy requires three weeks to do this, so unless you know your own embassy will work a lot faster, I'd get your skates on if I were you.

When a foreign national gets married in Japan, the following procedures must be completed. However, as there are more than 200 countries and regions throughout the world, these procedures may not apply to everyone. Confirm this with the representative of your country or region in Japan (embassy, consulate) before initiating any procedures.

?When a foreign national and a Japanese national get married
Submit a written report of your marriage at your local municipal office. In a marriage report, you need to have the signature/personal seal of two witnesses over the age of 20. The witnesses can be foreign nationals (the documents for a marriage report can be obtained from your local municipal office). Japanese nationals need a copy or extract of their family register. Foreign nationals need a certificate or legal document issued by their home country's embassy in Japan stating that he or she is eligible to marry. However, depending on the country, the way in which the eligibility for marriage certificate*(normally, in most cases, this is issued by the embassy of that country in Japan) is handled differ and as there are countries which do not issue such documents, please check what is required with your home country's embassy.

If your girlfriend is Japanese, you can get a spouse visa if you are married.
If your girlfriend is not Japanese, she must have a work visa status already, or getting married won't help you. If she has that, then you can get married and then get a dependent visa. The DV doesn't permit work, but a simple extra document at immigration will give you that permission, although only for PT work.

Getting married in Japan is pretty simple, depending on what your own country requires. Once you have satisfied your home country's requirements, you simply go to city hall and get married. Takes 10 minutes.
Then you go to immigration and file for a spouse visa. That could take 2 to 4 weeks. It could be cutting it close on your month left remaining, so you might want to consider asking for an extension on your tourist status. Explain why.

Learn what you need for the spouse visa application!!!
Your wife's koseki (family register).
A guarantor (her or her father).
Photographs of the two of you together.
The standard immigration form.
Your passport.
Perhaps more.
