Hello, anybody know any reason not to work for these companies?
W5, Cosmo, Selti
As far as I know, they are all ALT/AET dispatch companies in the Tokai region, and perhaps other areas.
Thanks |

I wouldn't work for W5 because they cut your salary during the holidays like summer vacation and winter vacation yet expect you to still pay full rent and all the other bills of daily life. I know someone working for one of their branches, who is a good friend and a reliable source. He told me he is not going to renew his contract so obiviously he is not happy with them.
I don't know about Cosmo and Selti. |

Selti is Interac. They do the low bids. That's Interac's their strategy. To lower ALT salaries by creating another company that will always provide the lowest bid for ALT contracts with a Board of Education.

I wouldn't work for Selti at least because for one thing, their salary begins at 200,000 yen in every instance (see their ads on Gaijinpot). Sure, the range may be 200-250K, but I bet that even with a CELTA or more and years of experience, they wouldn't put you on 250K to start out, so why should anyone who's not new to this game have to work up to the level they were perhaps previously getting or could get elsewhere (and there are some jobs that pay more than 250K)? |

Selti is just another arm of Interac that they are using to control the ALT market. The contracts are a bit better than they appear because unlike Interac ALTs, Selti ALTs are paid full salary during school vacations.
Direct contracts pay double what Selti is offering though, and of course they also pay during school vacations. |

200,000 per month? What is that, around $1,600 (U.S.) before taxes? Jesus. That's f-cking amazing.
I hope they throw in free rent or dancing girls or something. Otherwise that has "loser" written all over it. How could anyone with a shred of self-respect accept that kind of salary in Japan?
I posted a few days ago how sh-tty it would be to try and line up a bunch of part-time work for 180,000 a month -- But I think I'd rather do that than take orders from a bunch of jackasses for 20,000 more.
Really, if you're considering that sort of chump change, you may as well go to China. At least it buys something there. |

Yes, it's amazing. Selti is Interac's bottom-feeder:
Selti Co., Ltd. ALT positions. Teach English at public elementary & junior high schools from April. Non-Native English speakers with good English ability are welcome! Salary: 200,000 yen/month (no deduction during school holidays!).
Maxceed is in the middle:
Maxceed Co., Ltd. is now accepting applications for Full-time and Part-time ALT positions in Tokyo, commencing in April. We offer competitive salary with paid summer and winter holidays (for Full-time positions). Apply now for a chance to experience Japan in a new way. Full-time: 230,000 yen/month. Part-time: 15,000 yen/day. Applicants must be native-level. |
