Good news!! I received an email from GEOS inviting me to a three day interview session from April 21st to 23rd. Phoned just now and left a message for them to call me back in order to set up an initial interview session (apparently, that's what I have to do in order to get the show on the road). Wow! The second last week of April will be a busy one. I'll be going to interviews for four full days . I'm not complaining though. This is the moment I've been waiting for |

Thanks for your good wishes, everyone . I should actually correct myself here. I may not be going for all three days with GEOS if I'm eliminated at any point during the three day interview session. I just mentioned those dates as that is when recruiting will be taking place. Actually, I just got off the phone with the recruiter who called me back and spoke to me about what to expect. A package will be sent to me by the end of the week. |

Oh no, you're in for THREE DAYS.
Why do I say that?
POSITIVE THINKING. THAT'S WHAT'S NEEDED. |

Point taken. I'll remember your wise words as I descend into the journey known as job interviewing . |

i did my interview with geos last weekend and don't sweat it. i felt at the end that they were going to offer jobs to everyone, basically because of the high demand for english teachers. if you're professional looking, outgoing and respectful i'm sure you'll do fine.
as far as the interviews themselves, i don't think anyone was 'cut' throughout the whole process. i failed the test and they let me redo it. plus my final 30 minute presentation was a disaster. my thing was that i went to toronto for the weekend and saw a bunch of my friends that hadn't seen in a long time. needless to say i was definetly lacking sleep the entire weekend and only slightly hungover.
i have till tomorrow to sign the contract. i just find it kinda sketchy that they can't tell me where i'll be placed until after i sign. but it sounds like this sort of thing is standard when dealing with recruiters. they are honest about their expectations and that helps to clarify my own expectations of the company. because that's what they are...they're not a school, they are a business company.
good luck though...i'm sure you'll do fine |

That's what an acquaintance of mine told me as well @ don't sweat it. He also told me that "most people get hired". Still, the person I am, I don't like to rest on my laurels and assume that I'm a shoo-in for the position so I'm definitely going to work as hard as possible. Nevertheless, it is pretty reassuring to hear about your interview process, esp. since I'll be doing my interview at the exact same location as you did yours. Good luck with whatever decision you make. Btw: Whereabouts in Ottawa do you live right now (pm me if you want)? I've been to Ottawa many times in the past as we used to visit family friends there (the parents still live there, but not my friends). Sad thing is, I've NEVER had a beaver tail in all the times I've been there. How horrible...lol! |

OMG...THAT'S SO COOL!! Yep. Congratulations to us . I look forward to meeting you. As Ren & Stimpy says, "Happy, happy, joy, joy." (doing the happy salsa dance). I've booked my initial interview time for 11:30am on April 21st (Friday). |

Just had my interview today with ECC. Everything you read about the process is bang on! Well, except the part about them sending you home if you don't pass the grammar test (apparently you don't find out if you pass or fail at the Toronto branch). It was a fun session and all, but let me say one thing about the grammar test: It is HARD. Words can't even begin to describe just HOW hard it is. There have been threads about the test and interview process itself so I won't go into it. Besides, my brain is WAYYYYYYYYYY too fried to go into detail at this point. I will say this though: Based on the feedback I got today and how I felt about the grammar test, I'm prepared for either response. We all find out on May 5th whether we got in or not. I am really keen on going to Tokyo as there are positions there in July (which is when I applied to go for), but I also checked off Osaka as a second choice to show some flexibility. Well, I'm on deck with GEOS tomorrow for the initial interview. Hope everything goes my way and I make it through all three stages. Last, but certainly not least, I will put in my application to NOVA. Life sorta happened and I had to focus on ECC & GEOS so I made a decision to put it off till next week. Yeah, I know...mybad...bad time management. But, you live and you learn. |

Passed through both stage 1 & 2 today with GEOS and will be doing stage 3 tomorrow and Sunday . Unfortunately, I have to re-write my test . Totally grateful for that. Will find out this Tuesday as to whether I get in or not (crossing fingers and toes). |

Then you will almost certainly get a place with GEOS. Just make sure you give them a good lesson on the final day. Providing you don't freak out you should be OK. |

Questions about GEOS:
Do they still provide health insurance?
Contract completion bonus: How much?
Overtime: When does it kick in?
(Shakai hoken was covered when I was there, and I know what the bonuses/overtime used to be, but it's been a year or so..) |

Thanks, Soba . I'll remember your words of confidence tomorrow. Yeah, I'm nervous about the demo-worried that I'll flop . That plus, I'm preoccupied about having to re-write as well. All of us who failed the test have to be there half an hour earlier before those who passed; which translates to 8:25am . |
