I'm having a damn hard time figuring out where in the world to go. Well, where in Latin or South America... Years ago I had a desire to go somewhere in South America some time in the future and more recently I was intent on Mexico. I have looked more and more into Mexico, trying just to narrow down the region if not particular towns. I don't feel like one place is calling me, and it's very hard for me to select a country, let alone a town, by reading about them online. My apostillized diploma has come through. I am polishing up my resume. I will be doing a lot of research on teaching english as a foreign language (and do have experience tutoring ESL and working with students). I'm going to list a number of things that I'm looking for in a place to call home, and am hoping that experienced people can offer some guidance.
-a smaller town
-a music scene of some size (particularly classical, jazz, rock)
-young people (I'm 24), just enough to meet , socialize with, play music with
-a dog-friendly area (I have a friendly beagle)
-a small expatriate community
-an area that is NOT americanized/westernized
-an area that is NOT very touristy
-spanish, of course
-a school to teach at... perhaps smaller?
I think that is what I'm looking for. I realize that this is a shot in the dark, and I wish that I could be asking for this of just one country in particular. But I'm just not confident that I know where I want to go. |

Guadalajara sounds like it may be a good fit. |
