I'm about ready to spend a frightening amount of money on a ticket back to Europe this summer; any airlines to avoid?

Malaysia Airlines seems to have some good deals, but I've no idea what they're like.

I Just get these visions of twin engine bombers and captain scarlet with a hip flask.

Oh please. Malaysian Airlines is one of the major carriers in Asia. Maybe not as flash as Singapore Air but you won't notice the difference.

Aeroflot, unless service that borders on hostile is up your street and you have faith in aging Antonovs.

As far as Malaysian Airlines is concerned, they are a perfectly good airline but some of the flights involve staying over in KL or else having to wait in the airport for six or seven hours.

Thanks guys. Just to make it clear, there wasn't MEANT to be a connection between the 2nd and 3rd lines of my post; more about cheap flights in general...

A stop-over in HK? That sounds good to me - never been there.

KL (Kuala Lumpur) not Hong Kong. For that you should try Cathay.

Personally, I also like Korean Air. I spoke to a few of my students about them and alot of them told me they were an awful airline flown by frustrated airforce pilots who get their kicks by slamming the plane down on the runway as hard as possible. It turned out to be nonsense of course, but my students would still much rather pay twice the price for travelling with ANA or JAL. Asiana are also a Korean carrier and usually offer good prices.

Lufthansa has good return rates (less than the one-way price) if you stay less than 30 days. 707600 JPY will get you there and back(Nagoya - Frankfurt). (20000 yen less than it cost for my ticket here??? but everything just costs more if you by it in Germany)

I suggest ditching a trip to Europe, staying in Japan, holding out until winter or else string together a bunch of paid vacation and going when air fares are cheap.

Yes, I am officially boycotting summer travel this year! Evil or Very Mad

Actually Aeroflot on their long haul flights use ageing Boeings and Airbusses these days. The save the Tupolevs for domestic. But yes, it's definitely one to avoid. The air hostesses resemble rugby players and can get pretty nasty. The only attractive thing about them is that they are cheap and flying via Moscow is a fairly direct route.

Malaysian Airlines are very good and they offer some of the cheapest prices to Europe. The only thing is that you may not get a direct connection... You might end up staying the night in KL, but that's not a bad thing. Asiana are good too nad they're usually pretty cheap. The flight attendants uniforms are a bit unattractive though... They're grey.

I'm hitting a new low with airlines this summer when I go to Europe. We're flying Uzbekistan Airways to Riga via Tashkent. I'm a bit worried but I'm kind of curious to see Samarkand and Bukhara.

I doubt very much that Lufthansa would be cheap in July/August.

I have a Canadian friend who is here on a 2 year contract with ANA flying domestically. He said he would never fly with Korean Air. NEVER. That is coming from a pilot. True story.
