I'm curious -- in China when you are offered a job, is it acceptable to explain you still have some upcoming interviews and would like to hold off on accepting a job until you've had some time to weigh your options? Up to this point I've always accepted the jobs as soon as I was offered them, but this year I have some other options; I know it sounds reasonable to request some time to think it over, but this is China after all! I don't want to assume it's the same here as other places.
If postponing offers is generall accepted, what is the normal amount of time? One or two weeks? |

It's perfectly fine to let the school know you are considering several different options.
However, you need to remember that at the same time you're considering your options, the school is continuing to accept applications from other FTs.
If you dither too long, you might lose out on the school you want. I've seen this happen. So, if you're pretty sure you like the school, then I'd go ahead and accept the job.
My oft-repeated advice: get the email or phone number of a current FT at the school you're considering (ask the school for it), and find out what the real scoop is about that school |
