A very specific question, but does anyone know of any shops that would sell North American playable PS2 games? I'm sure Akihabara sells them, but I've never been there and have no idea where to begin my search. Anyone have any info on this? |

Laox and Games Hollywood (turn left after Laox by the Sega arcade, it's on the right, you have to go up a lift). there's another little place on the main street up some stairs but i can't remember the name.
To be honest that kind of stuff is so overpriced in Japan it's far cheaper to order stuff from Canada and get it posted over. DVD Box office is a good place to start. |

I heard that they weren't. A friend of mine told me quite specifically not to bring my hair dryer with me as the outlets were different. She ended up having to ship it back home. Another thing...I've heard there's this funky electronics store called 'Mr. Camera'. Is it located in Akhibara? |

The outlets are the same but only two prong. If whatever you are bringing has the third (grounding) prong, you'll need to use an adapter.
The voltage here is 100v, whereas the U.S. is 120v. I brought a desktop computer from America and it works just fine. I'm using it right now, after 4 years. |

so if the outlets are 100v, as apposed to 120v... does that mean some gadgets won't get enough voltage to run properly? |

Some things, like clocks, apparently don't. The timing on the electrical curcuits are different. Maybe someone can better explain it than me. I think everything else should work fine.
Interestingly, the outlet in my bathroom accepts any voltage. I happily plug my 220 volt razor into it, and it's fine. Pretty cool stuff. I doubt most apartments have this though.
Here's a question about Akihabara: Does anyone know a specific place where I can buy copied games? It was relatively easy to find this sort of thing in Korea, but Japan seems more strict on it. Do these stores even exist? They must be somewhere... |

Another question (without meaning to hijack your thread)
Having bought a PS2 in Japan, is there anywhere in the Tokyo region I can get it chipped so it'll enable me to play games and dvd's bought in other regions ? |

no Jon, that's a good question because I was wondering if that might be the best course of action for me as well. |

The import game section is on the second floor of Building B.
I saw somewhere it is possible to get your ps2 modded in aki, but that it is very expensive. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the place, sorry |

I don't think anyone's responded to this when I asked b4 so I'll ask again. Is there a store in Akhibara called 'Mr. Camera'? Thought I'd ask as I heard they sell a lot of funky things at this store (besides camera equipment). |
