Time to use some creativity.

I always get asked by my students, "What do you like karakuta-- (character)?" Or, translated into English: Who's your favorite anime or manga character? I never know how to answer them Smile

So anyway, I want to take this a step further. If you could become any anime or manga character, who would you be and why? Or, which anime or manga character are you most like? In personality or appearance? Both?

I'll start:

I'd be: Ogami Itto from Lone Wolf and Cub. Why? Because I like Japanese history (or historical fiction) and I've always wanted to be a manga Samurai... Smile There's also something about being the Kogi Kaishakunin that's kinda cool.

P.S. The poll is unrelated to the question above.

Anime/Manga is kind of a broad topic. It's kind of like asking people if they like movies. Just like movies, there are ones that I like and ones that are a complete waste of good paper/celluloid. Some anime/manga is actually good fiction with adult story lines. Others seem to be mindless adventures of giant robots shooting lasers from their *beep*. Those really skeeve me out.
If I had to choose I would want to be Yusuke Ono from the manga, Antique Bakery but you shouldn't mention that to any of your students. Ono-san lives my fantasy life. A character more palpable to students would be Hitori Sohma from the anime, Fruits Basket. I think it's called "Furuba" in the Japanese version. If you decide to watch Fruits Basket, you'll want to get past the first episode. It was so sacchrine that I thought I would need an insulin shoot but the story settles down by at least episode 5. Hitori doesn't show up until about episode 8 or 9 anyway.

I can't belive I've been "beeped"! Bre@st is a perfectly scientific word for a body part! Anyway, it should say, "shooting lasers from their bre@sts". I had to explain or it sounds really dirty.

Yeah, the bad language filters are weird sometimes. Heaven forbid should I post up a recipe for chicken *beep*... Or if someone complains about the cockroaches in Shitennoji.

If you get right down to it, anatomy is one-sided on this forum... A vagina is not a bad word but a *beep* IS for some reason.... Even though there are several notable *beep* Festivals all over Japan that have even gotten a fair amount of TV coverage from the West.

Wakarimashita?

And now... Without the censor: Smile Smile Smile

Akira.

The only real anime I've ever enjoyed watching, and I haven't seen in in almost 12 (15?) years now.

An entire festival dedicated to your junk in the trunk... For some reason I find that hilarious! Don't bob for apples at that village fete! Shocked
I thought of another character that might be safe for a teacher to say they liked. You might say you liked Agent Paper from R. O. D. (Read or Die). She was quite the bookworm but I've only seen the movie and not the television episodes so you might make sure the series didn't get perverted. My luck, I would tell students I liked a character based on the one episode I watched of some program and but come to find out the character was a complete skank for the the other 55 episodes.

A bit off-topic here... upon reading the title 'Antique Bakery' I thought, hey, that sounds familiar... Did you know that it was a J-drama series first? At least I think the drama came first, seeing how the manga was produced in '05 (not sure when the drama came out, but I bought it on VCD back in '01). Ono was not explicitly gay in the series though, in fact he was quite admired by the ladies. Anyway, if you haven't seen it I recommend it! Just an overall feel-good drama, with lots of tasty treats...

I'd be Sailor Moon because she is soo cute and has an awesome group of equally cool friends. Then if she was already taken I'd go for Bikin Man because he's just so darn funny! Very Happy
