I got on the micro today and when I was pushed to the back, I found another Canadian friend riding it! There are hundeds of micros that go to my area of the city, it was such a coincidence and made me feel like maybe one of the world's biggest cities has just gotten smaller, or even too small.
I had another experience at the U2 concert here, where I found somebody I knew amongst the 80 000 others.
Has anybody else had an experience like that here, or in another big city? |

Rare for me to run into someone I know randomly in DF. Happens enough when I go somewhere regularly, such as a particular building for classes, or a bar or restaurant in Zona Rosa, Condesa, or other place that foreigners frequent.
A high school friend of mine married a Mexico City girl late last year, but I knew he was coming. I otherwise probably wouldn't have seen him here. |

i think it's small. i mean, it seems small, because you're probably never going to set foot in 90% of the city, so you're actually dealing with a much smaller number of people than the 25million or so that live here.
i've run into people in the metro, on the bus, in restaurants, and last month i saw my old boss from the Tec (in Cordoba) downtown on the sidewalk.
i also think that if you look really different, people spot you more easily, so i'm sure it's a bit abnormal to compare my experience to that of someone who blends in more. when i lived in cordoba/fortin, i met people in a park one day from orizaba who knew about me. they were skaters, and i skate, and basically they were like "are you the skateboarding english professor from the Tec? we heard xyz about you!" it was freaky, and unfortunately i've had similar experiences in DF. |

Ls650, from BC, you might have seen the Enchanted Forest theme park somewhere on highway 97 out around Vernon/Armstrong area? Scary looking place in the dark woods. I think it catered to the heavy marijuana growing locales in the area.
Later...
huh. Here it is. Near Revelsmoke.

When I was in Cuenca, Ecuador back in 1995, I was sharing a house with another American. I knew she was a student at Purdue, but thought nothing of it, since my childhood friend who went there had already gradutated. But then she was looking at some photos of mine and said, "This is P. and B.'s wedding!" I said, yeah, I was in the wedding and pointed to myself in the photo. She was a guest at the wedding, which was five months earlier.
Another time, here in my small Mexican town, an American couple wandered through town. The man was from the small American town which my parents have retired to.
There are countless wierd stories, but no matter how many I hear, they still give me goose bumps. |

DF too small? Try Toluca.... I love my job but I got to find some way to get out of this provincial town.... Working on it even if it means a 2-hour commute from DF! |

Near Revelsmoke? I think you mean Revelstoke!
The locals are doing more than just growing the stuff! |
