For personal reasons I'm trying to land a job in Wuhan. Going through the usual channels has given me one job offer -- from Delter -- that is OK, but not spectacular. Basically the salary is only a little bit higher than a government university would pay, but it is a private institution which raises lots of alarm bells in me automatically. Also the sample contract they sent me is full of lots of language that could be used to cause me grief. (E.g.: They can dismiss me at any time for any reason with only ten days' notice without having to pay anything beyond my salary up to that point. This means they could dismiss me eleven days before they're supposed to pay for my ticket home....)
If anybody has contacts in various colleges and universities in the Wuhan area, would they mind PMing me some phone numbers or emails (after checking with their friends for permission, of course!)? In brief, I am a Canadian citizen with a B.Sc. in Computer Science and an M.A. in Education. I have a TESOL certificate and two academic years' experience teaching English in China. (More precise information, of course, including scans of diplomas/certificates, a resume and a current photo, will be sent to the places I apply to.)
I thank in advance anybody taking time out from their regular flames to help me out! |

I think the stipulation that causes you headaches is not so bad after all! If they do pay up to and including the day of your departure, consoder yourself lucky. Many others find themselves 'fined' for 'breaching' one regulation or another.
Of course, airfare normally is paid on the day of your quitting, and that means they prorate it. However, airfare often is pocketed by someone in the upper echelons of your school. I suggest you negotiate a prorated settlement and adding it to your monthly pay. It works to both sides' satisfaction - if they accept your suggestion, of course! |
