Hello, I was wondering if high speed internet is readily available in Thailand. If so, to what extent?

What is the average cost for a residential line?

Would it be cheaper to use computers at Internet Cafes?

Thanks,

Pete

Aw, come on. It is a fair question. How long has high speed internet been available all over Thailand? I know it is ubiquitous now, but for how long?

I remember returning to Viet Nam a couple of years ago, having been there six month's prior, and suddenly everything was high speed internet.

In the U.S., due to the size of the infrastructure and the sunk costs of existing land-line hardwiring, high speed cable and even decent cell phone technology has been slow to take off.

Australia, from what I understand, still has big issues with communication lines across the vast interior.

I live in South Korea, and everyone everywhere has high speed internet. I log on while my hair is being done or my car is being repaired. The government here made high speed electronic communication a priority some years ago- but the country is small and was relatively cheap to connect. Also, at the time that the cell phone and internet took off, a high percentage of people here had not gotten their first land line!

It's a funny thing about the technological leap in Asia (and in other developing regions), they were able to skip a generation of infrastructure costs and go straight to 21st century technology. The "old Europe" and the post 20th century (the American Century is officially over) U.S. have not kept up as well.
