Hi,
just wondering..
what do you think my chances are of getting a job in Moscow (not english teaching). Im a part qualified accountant (I can sit my accountancy exams in Moscow), have two year experience and speak fluent German, unfortunately I only have basic Russian. I hear the economy there is booming at the moment due to the oil prices so accountants are in demand.
Any suggestions, ideas appreciated

Sorry but this is a forum for teachers so we'd really appreciate it if you didn't post such questions on here. |

I don't see any problem with posting such a question on here. Of course, we're not likely to have any very good answers.
You can check for example www.job.ru or www.rabota.ru for job listings (some of which are in English if that's an issue).
But the best place to ask this question is almost certainly www.expat.ru which is a discussion forum for Moscow expats.
I suspect the situation will not be quite as rosy as you think, but in any case good luck. |

eazos,
several years ago, I was in a similar situation in Moscow. A few expats I interviewed with advised me to get the CPA and a few years of experience, and then return to Russia because work for western accountants will always be there.
One reason westerners are preferred is that they don't want Russians to be privy to the financial data. In Russian society, you never know who is connected with whom. The financial data in the wrong hands can cause problems.
Although I now have the CPA with a few years of experience, I no longer have any interest in returning to Moscow.
I'm sure if you look, you'll find something. Good luck. |
