Hi all! This is my first post here and I'm hoping you can help me out....
My husband and I are hoping to move to Hong Kong and I was wondering what his chances are of being hired as a NET. -He has his MBA (no undergrad English degree) and he will complete his TEFL Diploma soon. What do you all think? Does he have a chance? If so, what pay could he expect? |

From what i have seen, masters degrees will mean little to the EMB. If he has teaching experience and a tefl diploma (although the EMB are likely to be very particular that the diploma is a legitimate one) he would fit into the lowest catagory of acceptance for the primary net scheme. If accepted on that then the starting salary would be around 30,000 including housing allowance. It should be noted that the EMB really wants people with PGCE or the equivalent which is a post graduate cert to teach public school in your own country or a BEd. |

The minimum requirement for a NET is a University degree in any subject. I don't think an MBA will be regarded as equivalent. |

Ummm... My husband has an undergrad degree, though not in English. An MBA (Master's of Business Administration) is a university degree. |

I was about to say. . . how the hell did he get an MBA w/OUT getting a BA/BS??? That is impossible.
For what it's worth, if you are trying to find work for him in Hong Kong, I'm sure he could get some business related job w/an American firm. Honestly, it'd probably pay a hell of a lot more than teaching, too. |
