Hi.
Your other post says that you'll be in Japan for two weeks. How long will you be in Tokyo? If it's more than a day, Narita is not the place to stay. It's far from everything and I've never heard of anything interesting being located there.

I'd stay in the city.

Good luck.

... And also if you're going anywhere else in Japan, you'll most likely be taking the train from Tokyo station, so might aswell go to Tokyo in the first place. If you're planning to fly anywhere in Japan, you'll be leaving from Haneda.

I'll second (or a guess "third") that! Narita airport is a LONG wah from anywhere. I don't what to stay by the airport. Take the express train to Tokyo station. It will cost about $30. There are cheap places to stay in Tokyo but they are not always easy to find. My family and I stayed as a place called the Taito Ryokan (they used to have a website) and it's pretty basic. It's really just an old Japanese house and you get a room and sleep on the floor Japanese style. A lot of the backpacker types stay there. But it's not big. They probably only have 4-5 rooms so you need to make a reservation. It's in the part of town called Asakusa and is about a 5 minute walk from a subway station.

If you don't want any "adventure" I think you can plan on paying at least $75 a night (and easily more) for a standard "business class" hotel. Most hotels at a cheaper rate on the weekend and most also have a cheaper price if you book online at least a week ahead of time.

You might realistically need to plan on spending at least $100 a day for every day you're in Tokyo since you're new to Japan and won't know how to find the bargains and may end up having to take a cab or two. For convenience sake I took a cab this morning from Azabu Juban on one side of town to Akihabara towards the other side and it was about 3,000 yen one way.

sounds like my research was good. after flying all the way from the usa i wanted a cheap, easy to find place to stay. at $40 usd i think i did good. i will stay there one night then take a train somewhere else. they do airport pickup, which will make my first night in japan easier.

I'd say it depends on what time your flight is getting in. If you'll be arriving in the evening, then staying at someplace cheap by the airport (which is AT LEAST an hour's drive away from Tokyo itself) might make some sort of sense.

However, if you'll be arriving in the morning, I think it would be MUCH better to "finish the trip" and find a place in Tokyo. I'll add that I have stayed in a business class hotel in Akasaka (which is different from Asakusa) called the Marroad Inn Akasaka. I booked a room on the internet and paid 5,900yen a night (this was a weekend price). It's about a 15 walk away from the Roppongi area.
