^ For some reason unknown to me, the
budget airlines don't fly direct to Hong Kong.
Based on the 12,500 Baht fares (and up!) on Thai Airways
or Cathay Pacific, you'd probably be smarter to book a
roundtrip Air Asia flight to Macau (+/- 4,000 Baht)
and then hop a ferry across to Hong Kong.
The ferry takes about an hour.
Anybody else have a suggestion ?

There are something like 11 airlines that fly to HK from BKK - and you can usually get a ticket from a good travel agent for around 6000 THB - Thai and Cathay are always the most expensive.
Check out Emirates, China Airlines, Gulf Air, Finnair and Dragonair.
Or Air Asia to Macau - bearing in mind, that will add hours on to your journey, what with going through Macau customs, then going to the ferry pier in Macau, travelling, and then HK customs....not to mention all the delays you always seem to get on Air Asia. |

^ Good advice - check with travel agents too.
Charlie Connection Travel in Bangkok is advertising a
roundtrip BKK to HK fare for 5,000 Baht - excluding tax.
You can call them in Bangkok @ 02 629 4260.

You might find the cheapest fare is on Ethiopian or Kenyan airlines. I flew the former on that route a couple of years back. Just visit any travel agent in Bangkok and ask them about cheap fares to Bangkok. Although there are no budget airlines flying the route it is serviced by a number of airlines and some of them will offer cheap fares. |

Dragon air fly from Bangkok to Hong Kong, not sure about prices. Very expensive it would seem to fly from Bangkok to China for some reason. |

so here's the contact info for the Dragonair office in Bangkok:

191 Silom Road, Bangrak
Bangkok 10500 Thailand
Tel: (66-2) 266 2651 - 4

Thai and China Southern fly BKK to Kunming, and for some reason it's cheaper than a HK flight.
Bear in mind though, that you will need to pay for a Chinese visa ahead of time, whereas HK is visa free for most people.
Kenya and Ethiopian fly BKK-HKG as well as Sri Lankan, Gulf Air, Air India, China Airlines and Thai Orient Express, but taking safety into consideration I would attempt to stick with Dragonair, Cathay Pacific, Thai, Emirates and Finnair who have proven safety records.
I bought a return on Dragonair (KA) last November for a little over 6000 THB - another good thing about them is they have good departure times from both BK and HK - unlike Emirates, China, Finnair and Gulf. |

Where do you get these lists of airlines that fly from point A to point B
Is there a site that feeds you this information
If so, I would love to check the link (because I often need to know information about airlines and their routes).

Many bookshops in Bangkok sell airline timetables which list every single flight out of and into Thailand. The other alternative is to go to an online booking website and just plug in the destinations. Or just ask a travel agent about the cheapest fares. Travel agents are well informed about these things and they will suggest the airlines that offer the cheapest fares. If you wanted to ask them all the airlines you could fly on they would probably tell you this too. |
