Hi Everyone,
This year I have to take the English club and I was hoping for some tips from those of you who have done it before.
It's for a senior high group and it's years 1, 2 and 3 in the same group. It's basically a fun and games type of class although I have to admit that games are not really my forte. I would really like to avoid doing a whole lot of random games like bingo each week.
It's a mixed group but a lot of them are already studying speeches and debating with me, so I didn't really want to do more of the same.
Any ideas? I'd be really greatful for any advice or tips you may have.

Thanks for the reply Markle.
Have you done a club newsletter before? If so, what things did you include? |

You mean actually drag them out in front of the class one by one and make them sing?
Have you had success with this? |

uno, chess, and scrabble work well.
take field trips and go hiking. sports can also be fun. snacks (not sure if you guys have choco pies) and movies in English the last part. this is my second year doing monthly club. tennis works well also, esp. with the girls.

I'm sure my wife would like to speak with you... She started teaching high school this year and aside from teaching duties and being an assistant homeroom teacher she takes care of the International Club (English Club) two hours each day... So, needless to say, she needs to be full of ideas and activities.
If you want, PM me and maybe you two can arrange to exchange some ideas. I'm working on getting her a Dave's ID so she can do her own posting/asking etc... But in the mean time, if you send me the PM I'll get you in touch... |

Thanks for the ideas everyone.
Hamel... Mine's only a one hour class and my school's in central Tokyo. Hiking and filed trips are probably out of the question and it's meant to be an English club, so I'm not sure how I could work in tennis... Have you ever taught English through tennis? |
