|
|
Heading down to Hiroshima for a few days, also checking out miajima. Obviously gonna do the obvious A-Dome, Peace Park, Hiroshima-yaki etc.
Any locals got any recommendations on stuff to do a little off the beaten path? Dont really know too much about the city myself.
Also are there any vegetarian cafes/restaurants over there?
Cheers |

some vegetarian food there . But I warn you Hiroshima yaki has meat in it . Even if you ask for the vegetarian ones they will say sure and then kindly add some pork. My friend was a veggie and she said she always had problems in Japan when she told someone that she was a veggie they said "ok, have a bit of fish." She said, "no,I can't" they said "ok, how about octopus" , eventually she just got soup but the dashi in the soup came from fish |

You might find something good on this website: http://www.gethiroshima.com/
Apart from that ... if you catch the train a bit out of Hiroshima to Al Park shopping centre there is a great organic food place called Tear that has an eat-all-you-can deal. It's not all veggie food but I was always able to find plenty of veggie stuff there. I'm pretty sure the name of the station is Shin-Inokuchi and you see big "AL PARK" signs easily from the train. If you are walking towards the shopping centre from the train you can either go left or right into the centre. Tear is on the right side on the ground level.
If you have a car - drive about 45 minutes out of Hiroshima on the Sanyo expressway to Kuga and go to the fabulous Sanzoku restaurant there in the mountains. |

Go to a place called "Spud Love" and see Paddy or Simon (the owners), they'll fix you up. |

Regarding the vegetarian stuff. This is a very tough place to be a vegetarian. The concept just doesn't excist here. I manage but it's tough.
Kyoto has a few good vegetarian resraurants now though, so things are maybe getting better. |
