				| Hi, Considering coming to Ukraine to work and had a few questions that the search function could not answer:
 1) What is a "good" rate of pay? In Korea, the standard is 2,000USD a month. I expect no where near that amount, but I would like to know if Ukraine has a "standard" as well.
 2) Has anyone heard of English Town Rainbow Language
School in Kharkov, Ukraine. I have been corresponding with one of their representitves and the job seems almost too good to be true. Has anyone heard ANYTHING about them?

				| I haven't heard anything about that school, but I can recommend Kharkiv. It's a students' city, with many colleges and universities.
As far as a standard pay rate in Ukraine, it definitely depends on what city. My guesstimate on cities I've spent time in (NOT including rent, which you should try to get the school to cover):

 Kyiv - $750 +/month
 Kharkiv - $500 +
 L'viv - $400 +
 Odessa - $600+

Note: This is only my estimate on what you would need, not including rent, to live a somewhat comfortable lifestyle in the aforementioned cities (go out to eat a couple of times a week, perhaps one night at a club, a little local travel). As far as a "good" rate of pay, I would add ~$200/month to each of the salaries above.

 Good luck!

				| I think JP's numbers are a bit on the high side. For example $750/month + housing is about what BKC/LL in Moscow pay these days, and demand in Moscow is much, much higher than in Kiev. And Moscow is more expensive of course.
I currently work as a freeelancer in Kiev for $10/academic hour. Run that through your calculator.

				| So, would 400/month be bad for Kharkov? | |

				| $ 400 per month is bad anywhere.

 Seriously -

you could live on it but you're

not going to be throwing many parties.

Personally I wouldn't take anything less than

US $ 700 net + flat in any of the CIS countries,

unless you're desperate for the cultural experience.

				| ^ My expectations aren't the issue here.
The issue is whether $400 is an OK salary.

Based on the 3 years I spent in Russia,

I'd say it's on the low end of the scale -

 unless they're offering a wide range of perks;

including a private flat, free internet access,

 one-on-one Russian lessons with Natasha,

and lots of opportunities for overtime.

Ultimately the OP has to weigh up the offer

and decide for himself if it's worth it or not.

Based purely on the salary mentioned above,

I'd turn it down without a second thought.
