Hello. I've been in China now since March. Living in Hangzhou city. Now I'm kinda frusterated with my co-workers from time to time and it seems to me that alot of Chinese can be somewhat controlling over foreign teachers. Now I also heard that contracts don't mean anything. One foreign teacher (who know's about my company) said to me that chances are they won't give me a letter of reference when my contract is over and if you really want to get anything, you pretty much gotta be persistant about it. My contract says that they will give me a telephone. When in fact all they gave me was the phone itself. But I have to purchase the landline if I wanna use it. I came here origionally to teach English, but I was wondering if anyone here knew of any other job opportunities that a foreigner could get into? I hear that alot of people sometimes leave there teaching jobs to get into some type of marketing business where they sell stuff to their home countries over the internet. But if any of you know of any other job opportunities, will you let me know? I'd really appreciate it. So far I came here with no University degree. I only have high school and TESOL. My company has good relationships with the government and that's the only reason why they managed to get me a residence permit without a degree. If I were to just leave my job, would my residence/work permit allow me to work for someone else or do any type of self employed business? Thanks for your time.
