Hello. I've been viewing suggestions and comments here for several months and have found them to be quite informative. I'll be coming to Latin America in June and I'd like to stay for two years. My plans are to study Latin American literature at the graduate level, perfect my Spanish, and support myself by teaching English. I have a fair amount of experience as a teacher having taught Business English in Mexico City for three months and also having worked as a Spanish instructor for two years while working towards my M.A. in Hispanic literature.
I've narrowed my choices to either Buenos Aires or Mexico City. My question is, in which place would I have the best chance of supporting myself as an English teacher for two years? I realize that much of it depends on me and on the effort and energy I put into it. I guess what I'm trying to find out is which city provides the best objective conditions(salary, variety of opportunities, cost of living) that would make a long term stay feasible.I know that saving much money is unlikely and that at first I'll have to dip into my savings. However. over time I would like to break even. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thank you.
