I sent my degree to a recruiter in South Korea and they lost my degree. I have tried to contact my former university without success. I have my college transcripts and a letter from my former university stating back in 2001 that I had graduated with a degree. In 2000 I lost my degree on the subway in Hong Kong. My question is which countries would accept the documents I have proving that I graduated from a university in order for me to work there? I have worked at several universities in china including this year. Any help would be appreciated as my contract will end on July 31, 2006 so I am in the process of looking for another position.

any accredited university should be able to replace your degree for you, at a cost and not without some inconvenience. best get it done. those koreans wont be sending your degree back anytime soon, even if they do find it. btw, you now know that you should never send your degree to any of these clowns in future...... a lesson learned.

duh! NEVER SEND ORIGINALS!

your best bet is to email copies and if they need a paper copy, they can simply print it out.

you're obviously batting 1000. You lost your degree in 2000, and then you send it (obviously via mail) to Korea?

call your uni, find out the cost of replacing it, send them a check, and stop whining! then, when they send you this one, put it in a frame, mount it on a wall, and DON'T EVER TOUCH IT AGAIN! It's apparently not them...it's YOU!

(and why is this on the China forum?)

For what it's worth, I made the same mistake here in China. As it happened, the school still couldn't get me a Z and FEC, so it cost me an unintended trip to Canada to get a cetified copy from the school. And I wasn't reimbursed airfare at the end of the contract either. NEVER TRUST THESE GUYS WITH YOUR ORIGINALS

Call the registrar's office of your university and ask about how to get a replacement. It's usually an easy enough procedure that involves a phone call and about $20 ( at least in the USA)

And when you get it, chain it to yourself!

I finally received my degree back it was a long process but I learned never to send the original again. Thanks for all the words of wisdom.

on arrival at my current job, i gave my boss my degree, the real parchment. she needed to look at it and make a copy. after handing it over, she promptly folded it into a little square and stuffed it into her purse..... LOL.

I took a proactive approach to this issue: I had a duplicate degree issured from my graduating unisersity and carry both with me. I never let it out of my sight and never carry the 2 of them together - one is always hidden or seperate.

Whenever copy was requested it was done in front of me and I would never leave the degree - or passport - with the school. Only when they had to get a visa.

The cost was only $30 for the duplicate degree (mailed home to Florida).
