Hi,
I know this has been asked before many times but I have looked at post after post and have found nothing conclusive on whether I need a TEFL cert or not.
I am a 24 yr old male, British and graduated uni with a psych degree last November. I have experience of working in admin mostly in offices (and I loathe these jobs).
I don't think I will live in China for any longer than 2 years so I don't want to spend alot of money getting a TEFL qualification. It seems there are plenty of graduates who teach abroad for a year or two without having formal qualifications or experience.
With nothing but a degree am I virtually unemployable as an english teacher?
Thanks for your info and time. |

| You'll get a job with a degree only. Some places may specify a TEFL, but that's their option. Others will ask for experience. But the bottom line is that will still leave thousands of vacancies for you. |

Thanks thats good to hear. I studied psychology for 4 years and I hate it now. I don't want to be in the same situation with TEFL, doing MORE studying to do something I may not like. It just seems that the majority of jobs posted here requires a degree AND a TEFL/TESOL.
Thanks alot for info. |
