Hey Everyone,
I don't believe I've seen a question like this yet; and pardon me if it seems to be like a very obvious question to some, but I'm still very new to the field and the more technical things.
It seems that the overall concensus for finding a better position is to wait until arriving in Taiwan before jumping on an opportunity--and thus is what i've decided on, while also taking into consideration the fact that I have never travelled to this region of the world and would not want to make a hasty decision that I may soon enough regret.
My question is simply, because most (legal/credible) schools require proof of a degree (which I'm assuming means the hard-copy embossed piece of paper in their view to see and observe under a microscope if need be), how do people manage to carry this document around safely if they intend on travelling a short time before (backpacker style). Please advise or enlighten a confused soul on the overall issue if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Call up your college and get a duplicate. Got one from where I went and it looks absolutely identical to the original. Some schools will certify that it is a true copy of the original. I plan to laminate mine in plastic along with my resume on the back side. You can also get copies of your transcripts in sealed envelopes to give out as needed. I realize this is a hassle but the consensus on the forum is that the more organized and professional you look, the greater the likelihood of getting a good job.
Any other ideas out there?

How big is your degree physically? They are usually either A4 or A3 to my knowledge. If it is A4 then it will fit nicely in a hard back folder. The type with all of those pockets to fit your A4 documents. Manila folders will inevitably dogear when backpacking. A3 sized degrees require a cylindrical container. Pick one up at the post office. These are bigger and more difficult to carry around backpacker style.
If you are doing a circular trip, ie starting and ending in Bangkok, you can leave it in a bag in a left luggage locker. Guesthouses, bus stations and train stations offer cheaper alternatives to the one at the airport.
Alternatively just mail it here. I think it takes about a week to get here. Just make sure you write R.O.C. at the end of the address or it will more likely than not wind up in Thailand instead. |
