Searching the China job board (thanks to another poster's suggestion in my first thread about being able to save and work without a degree) I found this link: www.traininglinkchina.com.
Seems to be a group that trains you and offers a TESOL Certificate which you can either pay for up front ($750 USD) or have taken out of your pay once you have landed a job with them.
Since I do not have a TESOL Certificate I figured this might be a good way to not only travel and teach but get something more from the experience to help me along the way with other jobs.
Are places like this legit or are they just promising jobs to get you to take the course with them?
What other places/countries offer such training? |

Or course they are. Usually, these schemes offer you jobs that pay less than the standard jobs as well.
Frankly, how can ANYONE reputable promise you a job? What if you are nutcase - child molester - 24 hour-a-day alcoholic? Can I really promise you a job?
If you can't afford a course and want one - take this program or something similar. But, understand that you will, most likely, be getting either a substandard job, substandard pay - or both.
If you can afford to pay for your course - do it - and then go after the BEST jobs yourself.

I've always found the idea of a "job placement guarantee" a little sketchy. If I'm sure I can get you a job, and I don't know you, then I must have connections that would hire absolutely anybody. Is that where you want to work?
Though to be honest, in setting up our new TESOL course, I've been working with an overseas recruiting partner that does offer such a guarantee, and is highly reputable. Their application process is simply selective enough to only accept people they are sure they can place in good jobs. This is NOT typical in the industry, though. And with them, you have to pay up front.

How "selective" can you be when you haven't even met someone?
Frankly - as manager in a former life (supervising about 140 in four cities) - I think even hiring people you gave a good interview in person is a gamble . . .
But then - I didn't enjoy that life and here I am now! |
