Holidays give you time to think.

I'm going home for a holiday and a booking session with a travel agent in HK made me realize that airlines do not transport people, they fill see seats with bumz ....that is all.

So if a language school opens a class, their aim is not to educate, but to have as many bumz as possible.

So if you earn 200 per hour with 20 students/bumz the ratio is 10 RMB per student/bum

So if your boss shoves in a few extras, enlarging his take, you should tell/ask the boss about your ratio.

This as a response to another post:Standing up to the boss.

Who cares to differ or to comment?

But on the other cheek, I only get 130 ph for a class of 10, and then get 250 ph for 30 students[different employers]. The first one works out at 13 per arse, the second at 8.3 per arse. Preparation time is around the same. I doubt if the second employer would up my pay to 390 an hour to match the first! Payment for arses on seats; a first for teaching anywhere! Unless you're running the school that is.

PS Peter, the censoring software doesn't mind ARSES, but try bums, dicks, cocks, pussies.

A question to myself.

What happens if your 30 arse class gets smaller and becomes an 8 arse class?

Would your income go down the toilet?

Who has been through this?

Leeroy
I'ts a fine US piece of software: doesn't pick up Brit/Aust "language".
I first came across it when I tried to type in the famous 19th Century novelist Charles Dickens. Try US veep Dick Cheney, who becomes dick the veep. Pair of tossers anyway.
I expect the YPA [yuan per arse] ratio to become commonplace in contracts in future.

I have for a long time found some merit in the idea that we should command a basic hourly wage plus a percentage that increases progressively with the increase of student intake. Say we accept a class of 20 students at an hourly wage of 100, plus 2.5 kuai per student, total = RMB 150, that would be good for us, the students and our boss; if, however, the boss decides to squeeze more learners into the same class, the per-student rate should double to 5 kuai: assuming he now enrols 25 students, we make 100 " 25x5 = total 225 RMB.
If students agree, it is fine; if only the boss wants it this way, he is cheating us and the students.
This should be used to safeguard the interests of those who actually pay our salaries, and our own ones, without sacrificing the interests of our employer.

Some private business institutes will start a class with a minimum of six students and a maximum of 15. If students drop out due to complaints about the teacher, the teacher is replaced. It is pure arse in seat economics.

The only thing I would add is that the other students should also
get a rebate if class size exceeds a certain limit since their share
of the teacher's time has dropped as well.

After all, if the main draw of a class is the foreign teacher, then
reduced access to that teacher should cost less.

#1 I sincerely hope you do not teach any business courses. You are talking like a teacher without business experience. Your suggestion is anti-capitolism! Laughing
