Hello,

I'm an experienced and TEFL certified English teacher currently working in Japan. I'm looking for a short-term ESL gig in Thailand starting in March of 2010 (when my contract here is finished). I just need to earn some money before I start a volunteer project there that starts in June.
Short-term work is difficult to find on both ajarn.com and daveseslcafe. Am I better off just showing up and looking for something once I'm there? Are there any other websites anyone can recommend?

Thanks!

March is not a great time for jobs in Thailand. Most public and some private schools will be finishing up the school year in March with the major holiday of the year in April (Songkran festival). The new school year starts again at the end of April or beginning of May.

As an experienced teacher you should be able to find work at a language school doing exam prep, convo courses, business etc. Best to be here to get these jobs. I don't think many places will hire you if they know you will be leaving/quitting in June, so you may have to leave that part out when applying.

Normally an experienced teacher can get private students, but you need to make a few contacts first, so it will be tough in your case.

If you aren't picky about the job (location, benefits, salary, etc), you should be able to find something, at least for part of that time.

Keep checkin the other site you mentioned in your OP as there are sometimes short term jobs. Again you will need to be here to get them.

Good luck!

I was actually looking for temporary work in more-or-less the same time frame. I was hoping to find some kind of school-break program. I think that is the time when Thai public schools are on break. Korea has a lot of those jobs (camps) during their school breaks. However, I'm not sure if many of such programs exist in Thailand. Anyways, best of luck in finding something.
