Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience ....
I have completed my degree, but moved to Hong Kong 2 days after my final exam so I haven't actually "graduated" and received my diploma (I DO have a certificate of completion however). I could get it sent to me in the mail and graduate in absentia BUT I was hoping to do the graduation thing in a year or two when I go home.
Or I was until I heard that without the piece of paper (not just a certificate of completion) you can't get a Working Visa in Japan .. or that at best I could only get a part time job ...?
Has anyone had this experience? Any advice to offer..?

Each time I applied for a Japan working visa I was asked to submit a copy of my diploma. I think it's necessary, but you might be able to provide just an official university transcript that states the date your degree was completed. My transcript showed the degree completion date before I attended a graduation ceremony.
If you want the quickest, most definitive answer you might want to call a NOVA (or other big eikaiwa company) recruiting office or send them an enquiry via email. |

I came to Japan before my graduation ceremony but had completed the credits needed for graduation. You need either a letter from your university saying you have graduated i.e. completed required credits for graduation or a copy of your transcripts. You dont need to attend the actual ceremony and collect your actual diploma first. |
