ok, so I've applied to a few places in Ecuador and I havent heard a peep back from them and its been between 2 and 3 weeks. Is this the usual process or should I just accept the silence as a rejection. I don't think I am under-qualified as I've recieved a few actual job offers in Mexico but I continue to hold out for Ecuador(I already have a plane ticket). Whats the usual hiring process? Ive applied to CEDEI and NewEraGalapagos and havent heard anything since sending them my resume, letters of recommendation, and whatever else they ask for. I feel like Ive jumped through their application hoops and I deserve at least a rejection response.
Am I being too impatient? or just expecting too much? any other suggestions?
thanks. |

It's normal. Usually they want to meet you in person.

As you note, it's only been 2 or 3 weeks. The schools likely each have a pile of hundreds of resumes to sift through. If they like what they see on your resume, they'll get in touch with you eventually.
In the mean time, apply to other schools; maybe you'll find something better. |

It's a tough part of the world to get a job without being here. They always want to see you first, so it seems. That's why you won't see too many job listings posted here on Dave's for Latin America except for the certificate scams.
Best of luck! |

If The Experiment in International Living is one of the ones you've applied to, please resend. I don't think I've got it, but it's possible that I've lost it...things are seriously hectic in Ecuador right now.
Be aware, too, that viruses are a big problem here, and many schools simply don't open emails from unknown senders. Some don't take email applications at all.
Neither of these is the case here, but I know of at least one school director who doesn't even know how to use email, though there's an email address on their website.
Good luck,
Justin |
