What is the average percentage of tax taken out of an American paycheck? Let's say I make 42,000 a year gross. How much would I be taking home net each month? |

I'd guess that by the time you take out federal and state taxes, retirement, and insurance, you'd bring home around 2,800/month. |

I think less than $2,800/month. I take home, after health insurance and 401K is deducted, around 3,000/month, and i make a good bit more than 42,000. There is also no state income tax in Washington. |
