Hey, What do ye guys reckon the best way of getting a job in a government high school is once you've arrived? send out a load of e-mails or letters, try and phone every highschool in town to organise an interview or just call to every high school in town without any notice and continue from town to town until you're hired or what?(I'd be out in the sticks) I've all the qual's/paperwork ready. I'd be grateful to hear your opinions/experiences/methods of pounding the pavement in LOS.

Cheers.

Step 1: Watch the adverts on Dave's, Ajarn and TEFLAsia

i.e., there's not much use in applying if a school isn't hiring.

Step 2: E-mail your CV to those that sound interesting or promising,

and mention in your cover-letter that you're already in Thailand.

This separates you from the 200 other applications on his desk,

from people who may or may not be serious about teaching here.

Include a Thai mobile phone number in your cover-letter

so the DOS, Manager or Principal can contact you

quickly & easily at his or her convenience.

It also makes it easier for you to reply to offers,

answer questions or make appointments on the fly.

Step 3: Set up an interview and dazzle 'em with charm & good humour.

Looking sharp & clean for that interview definitely works in your favour.

You could also reply to job adverts before arriving in Thailand,

but you might not get a firm offer until you've met face-to-face.

Typical response: "Thank you kindly for e-mailing your CV.

Call us when you get to Thailand so we can meet ... "

Good luck ! Very Happy

Don't call the schools, that is a waste of time and money, no one will speak English with you enough to even get you in touch with the right person.

Check out the ads and reply to them.

If you already know what city you want to be in, you can visit schools with a cv in hand. I know people who have been quite successful with this method.

^ Yeah I'd apply at all and every school.....just 'cos they're not advertising don't mean they don't need someone, or won't soon.
