I just got back from the big concert at Skydome in Toronto tonight. The concert was great ... all canadian line-up ... the concert , if you are not aware ( as i assume most of you would not be) , was to support Toronto after the recent SARS outbreak. all canadian bands .... sarah mac, tragically hip, our lady peace, avril levigne( not my personal fav), diana krall, barenaked ladies ...
all in all was a great concert ... the tickets were cheap cheap cheap .. $20... and sold out within the first 3 hours they went on sale ( skydome held about 60 000 tonight) ...
was a great way to bring people into toronto and bring the city together.

posting only for interest sake to those candian kids out there ......

Sounds like a good concert. Very Happy (And I happen to think Avril Levigne is a talented singer, by the way--kicks that Britney whatsherface's butt. Wink ) Now, what I'm wondering is....are they still planning to pay $10 M. for the Rolling Stones???? Shocked

Hey Jinxy, are you a Nickelback fan? I'm going to the Concert on the Hill in Halifax next week....can't wait! Very Happy

but honestly .... it was a great night .. lotsa talent here ... not always so noticeable ( i won't even begin to get into candian television or movies ) ..
i was quite surprised ...

and capergirl ... i must admit i somehow knew all the words to a certain avril's songs ... and enjoyed her performance ...
nickleback though ... definitely not my fav by any means .. find them a sell out of a band ... SORRY!!! ... uhmm ... i like chantel krevaizuk ... that's good for a laugh!!!

Nickelback, Default, Crush....good bands. Nickelback a sellout band? How so? Do you know that "This Is How You Remind Me" was the most played song of 2002? Obviously, not too many Canadians share your opinion. Wink

Of course all the real talent is on the East Coast....Great Big Sea, The Rankins, The Irish Descendants, et al. Very Happy

And Hank Snow. Don't forget Hank Snow. Don't let my family here you forgetting Hank Snow. Sure, he's been passed away for a while, but if I don't publicly defend Hank Snow, I may as well apply for refugee status here.

I heard about this on the web. Same night ACC and Skydome. Toronto is a good place for gigs. Just before I came to Asia REM played a freebie on Yonge St. And I saw the Hip on the millenium new years at ACC. Not to mention my old stomping grounds the Phoenix on Sherbourne st. Toronto is a great place for live music...Everybody plays there. And yes Leanard Cohen and Neil Young are Canadian. And lets not mention Rush and Bachman Turner Overdrive. Or even Joni Mitchell.

acc was a little slower venue than the skydome .. they had a huge screen set up in the skydome and showed the performance at acc between acts. teeter tottered between the two all day .... sarah mac, diana krall, some others were at acc ( sleepy so the names are escaping me ... )

Damn straight! Having grown up on the East Coast, I count these folks as my neighbours, as well as Natalie MacMaster and Ashley McIsaac. I've got a soft spot for these show-offs of the Celtic music scene Cool
