I have been looking at the government web site that explains the process for getting a local driving license in Taipei (car or scooter). www.tcmvd.gov.tw (then click on the English link, top right hand corner.)
Generally, it is a very informative site as it covers all the legal stuff, how and where to take the test, what paperwok is needed and it even lets you practice the English Written Test questions through an online simulated test (for this, you need to click on Exam CAI).
Anyway, if you click on the License Test link, you will see some information about what you need to take along to the test facility.
(1) Alien Residence Certificate [ARC] with validity of over one year (the issued day to expired day must be over one year.)
Example: date of issue: 2004.05.05 ~ date of expiry: 2005.05.04
(2) Two Recent Photos (front view of face, without hat, 1 inch) and taken within the past 6 months.
(3) Application Form for Driver License Test (we supply)
(4) Local Driving License or International Driving License plus one Copy (the document is only for car license test)
Can anyone explain the following:
Have I missed something here, or do the examples dates they offer actually show a typical one year ARC? I am assuming the dates are written in the following format: year/month/day.
Most teachers hold a one year ARC. If you need a longer ARC, how can teachers ever become legal. Seems like a VERY silly rule.
Has anyone got a local license recently? If so, what length ARC do you hold?
I got my local license several years ago (on a one year ARC). I guess the rules must have changed since then. |
