|
|
I've looked at working for the major eikawa, and I'm planning to go for ECC and Aeon. However, I just saw that NOVA is coming nearby for recruitment interviews soon. While I don't think I would go with NOVA if I were hired, would it be a good idea to try to get an interview just for the practice? More importantly, is there a cost involved in applying/interviewing with NOVA? I definitely don't want to spend money on this if I'm not all that interested...
Also, how soon after the interview does one usually learn of possible employment and when does a contract have to be signed? Although, like I said, NOVA doesn't look too promising to me (especially with the talk of financial problems), but it would be comforting to have a back-up...
Thanks! |

I've looked at working for the major burger barns, and I'm planning to go for Burger King and Wendy's. However, I just saw that McDonalds is coming nearby for recruitment interviews soon. hmmmmm, it appears Yamanote S. doesn't feel you are aware of the fast food image that eikaiwa schools have in Japan. But, I'm sure you probably are. So, maybe I can give you a somewhat helpful answer here.
NOVA's interview is different from other eikaiwa instructor interviews in terms of presentation requirements. You don't have to give a demo lesson or take a difficult grammar test. You should be active in the group discussion/presentation portion of the interview. The recruiter looks to see who gets the most involved.
After that, you get the private interview. You're asked some personal questions (during the first part of this you're asked to respond to each question in like 3 seconds or less. Can't remember exactly) and then you're asked to read a passage from a textbook and explain some word meanings. No big deal. NOVA has the easiest, least-stressful interview session.
Other companies like Aeon and GEOS require more from you in terms of demonstrating your abilities through a demo lesson and grammar test. GEOS is actually a 3-day interview and is probably the most grinding.
Anyway, the only money you might have to shell out in order to interview with NOVA would be transportation and housing costs if the interview takes place in a location far from where you live. It's worth the experience if it's not inconvenient for you to go. |

I'd second that. If you don't have a wealth of interview experience it will do you good in general terms, but as luckyloser700 said, don't expect the interviews to be the same. It won't hurt to give it a go, and an extra job offer never did anyone any harm.
And for what it's worth, working for Nova isn't a fraction as bad as it's made out to be. |

Yeah, I'm aware of the eikawa image... I just hope they don't smell as bad as BK & McD's. Just going in those places makes me sick.
Thanks for the info about the interview and how it differs from Aeon & GEOS. I was actually looking forward to some type of grammar test because I'm a grammar nerd.
I definitely don't have that much interview experience, and I've never been to one that has a group session. I take interviews too seriously, which makes me nervous, which makes me freeze or blabber on or just suck in general. Since the location is only about 30 minutes away, I'll probably send in an application. |
