Hello,

As the title implies, I have a Peanut allergy and plan to be in Thailand for at least a couple months... am I screwed? I've been asking around on different message boards about this because its really important to me. Right now my only plan is to say " no peanuts please I am allergic" in Thai for when I order something.

So does anyone have advice? any input at all would be awesome.

Thanks!

Are you one of those people who dies on eating the slightest trace of peanut oil, or does it take actual solid peanuts to get you? You can assume that every kitchen in Thailand has peanut traces on most of its surfaces, so if the former, then yes, you're screwed.

If the latter, I'd suggest ordering foods which should never have peanut in them, and examine thoroughly when it arrives. Don't rely on the waiter understanding about peanut allergies, or on the message getting through to the cook.

Thanks for the response!

Thankfully I would not die from only traces, perhaps just have some bad digestion. If I were to eat a larger amount I would have more discomfort + vomiting.

Anyone have suggestions on what I could order that for sure has no peanuts? How about soup and noodles (like pho) or some fresh seafood? I know pad thai usually has peanut sprinkled on top so I'll avoid that.
