Dear all,
As you have been very helpful and knowledgable re my query yesterday, may I please tap into your knowledge again.
I now received another offer which is reasonable but not perfect. If I take it, will I be free to move to a better job once I am on the ground in Oman or will my employment visa force me to stick to one employer? I read a thread about release letters but I did not fully understand the implications of this.
Is there in general a way to get out of contracts and take better ones or is this against the basic way this is laid out?
Kind regards,

If you have accepted a job with one company and they have started the procedure to get you a work visa, you can't move to another company. The government will not allow a foreigner to have two visas in his/her name. It *may* be possible if both employers agree, but why would they want to. The first employer has spent the money to get this far and they are not going to help you change jobs. The second employer would know that you may dump them immediately in the same way.
The key is if you have accepted the first offer or not and the employer has started the procedures. If you are still negotiating, and haven't accepted, you are free to accept either offer. But, if you have accepted the first job in writing a week or so ago, you very well may have to complete that contract before moving on to another institution.
