I have a quick question/s,

I'm thinking of applying for the NET scheme. However, I'm currently residing in Hong Kong and have been here for 5 years and have vast experience teaching in Hong Kong schools but not as part of the NET scheme.

Could someone please tell me whether I would be eligible to qualify for the allowance. I only have a temporary identity card. Originally I'm from the UK. Although I only need to do another 2 years and I can apply for the Permanent ID card.

Obviously from a financial point of view the allowance would make a huge difference as to whether I would pursue working under this scheme. I currently earn an excellent salary at my school, but it can't get compete with the NET scheme. Also, how much do you think I would start on if I applied and was successful. I'm educated at university level with 5 years experience.

Thanks for any replies.

It might be difficult, but if you have the patience of Job and are prepared to argue it through you should have a chance.
They say you need to show receipts/bills/leases/utility agreements etc from your home country to prove that's where you live.
I came over here a few months before getting into the NETs scheme and prior to that had been living back with my parents for a few months to save money to make the move and prior to that had been flat-sharing where the other person had all the utilities and lease agreement in his name.
Thus, I had nothing to show them, as I hadn't had my name on any agreement for close to 3 years back in NZ by the time I was accepted into the NET scheme.
Initially, they weren't going to give me the allowance, but I complained and wrote a lengthy piece explaining my position and stating that regardless of where I am I'll always feel NZ is my home.
They finally accepted that.

Best to discuss it with them first.
