We gripe about the miniscule cut we get. But if a teacher starts a school, does he pay his teachers any better than he was paid?
Anybody have any experience with teacher co-ops? Teachers organizing together and sharing profits.
Recently calculated a fellow teachers share of what the company was paying the school to be 1 26th. Less than 4%. Really does seem unjustified. |

A notorious chain of schools went bust in the late eighties in Istanbul when the owner was jailed for fraud. One of the schools was taken over by a co-op of teachers but itself went bust. The owner came out of prison and re-opened but this time with a kiddy fiddler he met in prison as general manager.
Teacher owners would have to pay meagre salaries to compete. |

Interesting example.
That's kind of what I figured. So maybe the schools aren't really ripping us off as much as it seems? I'd like to believe in my heart of hearts that there is some sense behind it. |

Thrifty, this was one of the best jobs you ever had.
(I also worked for them and it was a good gig for a while) |

Thrifty, so you mean to say that since the late 80's you know you have been working in an industry that you consider crap. 17 years...SEVENTEEN YEARS....and yet you stayed in that industry. Are you a retard or something? |

No, the co-op/kiddy fiddler thing happened way before my time. I just worked there much later and heard the gossip. |
